Sheep & Goats
Severn Edge Farm Vets provides veterinary care and advice on all aspects of sheep and goat health and husbandry. Our services are tailor-made and suitable for all sheep owners from the largest commercial flocks to hobby farmers and pet sheep. Our practice at Bridgnorth has an on-site lambing room which allows clients to bring their sheep and goats to us for not only lambings, but c-sections, surgical procedure, routine check-ups and disbuddings.
The lambing season allows our biggest contact with sheep farmers. In Shropshire our lambing season runs from December to the end of April. Our Bridgnorth practice is fully stocked with all the required lambing sundries; Ritchie Marking sprays, colostrum, feeding bottles, Uderley EZ, Trusti Tubers, castration rings and much more.
In addition to producing the basic flock health-plan, we also offer whole flock advice on all veterinary and management matters. Common areas that we are asked to cover include:
- Examination of rams prior to tupping, with semen evaluation.
- Blood testing of ewes in mid-pregnancy, to avoid conditions such as ‘sway back’, ‘white muscle disease’ and pregnancy toxaemia.
- Investigation of abortions or infertility problems, which we do through the VI Centre in Shrewsbury.
- Lambing management and prevention of neonatal diseases in lambs.
- Faecal egg counts to monitor worm burdens and inform worming policy.
- Anthelmintic resistance and the correct choice of wormer. We have in house lab kit that can give results within 15 minutes.
- Foot rot control and reducing lameness in the flock.
- Our Flock Health Club offer an opportunity for networking, discounts on services and regular member only updates. Please speak to Susan or Holly to find out more.
