DAIRY WORK & ROUTINE HERD VISITS

The vibrant British dairy industry is undergoing many changes, and we see these changes across Shropshire and the West Midlands. Over the past decade, dairy farm numbers have continued to fall, with producers in England and Wales now just over 7,500. Animal welfare is of fundamental importance to the industry and something that Severn Edge Farm are passionate about.

To support our clients and continue to offer the very best clinical care the team at Severn Edge Farm will work closely with our dairy clients to ensure that we are fulfilling expectations with their milk contracts. Our vet Megan is able to offer Mastitis Control Plans in line with Dairy Co requirements (subject to Milk Contract). Contact us today to find out how we Megan can help you.

Our team of vets and vet techs will work with your herd to offer body condition and cleanliness scoring, teat scoring as well as antimicrobial use monitoring. As technology improves, much of this data collection is being automated and the team of vets at Severn Edge Farm are confident working with this data.

At Severn Edge Farm we encourage Routine Herd Visits to keep on top of regular fertility work (using ultrasound scanners) and other routine procedures. From these visits we are able to analyse your herd’s fertility and mastitis and production data allowing us to give advice to maximize your herd’s health and productivity.

Farm assurance has been around for a while and we aim to make your Herd Health Plan dynamic and interactive so that it is a useful health and production tool as well as providing assurance to consumers.

All herds are monitored for the main infectious diseases encountered in dairy herds and appropriate preventative plans put in place using vaccines and other management practices. From our practice at Severn Edge Farm, Bridgnorth we have a well- stocked dispensary and are able to stock a full range of preventatives, medications and vaccines at a competitive rates. Orders can be collected, delivered to farm at RHV or bought out by Vet Techs when they are in the area.

As a practice have a good working relationship with vets at the Animal Health VLA laboratory in Shrewsbury who provide current advice on disease syndromes as well as lab tests when things are perhaps not going to plan. Further supported by Axiom Farm Labs we are able to run a comprehensive range of diagnostic testing with a quick turn- around to minimise production issues on farm before they become a whole herd problem.
