Bolusing for Better Flock Health: A Successful Farm Talk with Agrimin

Sep 11, 2025

On Monday 8th September, a group of local farmers gathered at CR Livestock’s farm for an informative and hands-on bolusing event, focused on a key topic in sheep health management. Hosted by Severn Edge Farm Vets in collaboration with Agrimin & CR Livestock, the evening offered a valuable opportunity to learn more about the science and benefits behind sheep boluses, with a practical demonstration and plenty of time for questions, conversation—and of course, pork baps.

The event was part of an ongoing series by Severn Edge Farm Vets aimed at supporting livestock farmers with practical, product-led knowledge to help improve animal health and productivity. Agrimin, a leading name in trace element supplementation, kindly joined us to share their expertise and showcase their range of boluses.

Why Bolusing Matters

For many farmers, ensuring their flock receives the right balance of trace elements can be a challenge—especially in areas where soil deficiencies are common. That’s where bolusing comes in, Agrimin’s sheep boluses are designed to deliver a slow-release supply of essential trace elements like cobalt, selenium, iodine, and copper, helping to maintain optimal health and performance over several months.

The benefits? Healthier ewes, stronger lambs, improved fertility, and better growth rates. It’s a simple intervention that can make a big difference—especially during key periods such as tupping, lambing, and weaning.

Expert Insights and Live Demonstration

Agrimin’s team gave a clear and engaging talk, breaking down how their boluses work, when to use them, and what results farmers can expect. They also covered the science behind the slow-release technology, which ensures a consistent supply of nutrients without the peaks and troughs associated with drenches or licks.

One of the highlights of the evening was the live demonstration. Farmers gathered around as the Agrimin team showed exactly how to administer the boluses safely and effectively. For those new to bolusing—or looking to refine their technique—it was a great chance to see the process up close and ask questions in real time.

A Social and Supportive Setting

Of course, no farm talk is complete without some good food and conversation. Severn Valley Roasts provided delicious pork baps and refreshments, giving everyone a chance to catch up, share experiences, and swap tips over a bite to eat.

What’s Next?

Following the success of this event, we’re excited to announce that another farm talk is already in the works—this time focusing on bolusing cattle. Details will be shared shortly, so keep an eye on social channels for the official invite.

Whether you’re already using boluses or just starting to explore the benefits, these events are a great way to stay informed, connect with fellow farmers, and hear directly from the experts. A huge thank you to CR Livestock for providing the setting, Agrimin for their time and knowledge, and everyone who came along and made the evening such a success.
